Industry information

Level 5 qualified healthcare practitioners are the critical thinkers and change leaders our health system needs, applying evidence-based practices and Māori health models across aged care, disability support, mental health and social services. Because people will always need skilled, culturally responsive care that technology cannot replicate, advanced healthcare practice represents one of the most future-proof professions available.

A profession in critical demand

With an estimated shortage of 16,400 workers needed across healthcare, aged care, community and disability sectors, plus a projected gap of 12,000 residential care beds within eight years, New Zealand urgently needs practitioners who can work independently or in supervised settings with advanced assessment and support planning capabilities.

Career progression and professional recognition

Due to New Zealand's aging population and the increasing complexity of care required for dementia and end-of-life services, job prospects for Level 5 qualified practitioners remain exceptionally strong.

Level 5 graduates progress into specialized roles including Healthcare Assistant (senior), Support Worker (complex care), Health Navigator, Disability Practice Specialist, Mental Health Support Worker, Youth Worker, Consumer Advocate and Social Services Practitioner across NGOs, iwi services, justice/corrections and residential and community settings.
